Additional information:
In this atmospheric pastel painting, Erwin Starker captures the silence and stillness of a woodland landscape in the transition from winter to spring. Sunlight gently breaks through the high tree crowns and casts long shadows across the snow-covered forest floor, where the first signs of thaw are visible.
With a sensitive technique, Starker creates a richly layered image in which light, colour and texture come together in subtle balance. His soft, almost Impressionistic touch enhances the tangible atmosphere of the scene. The forest appears to be slowly awakening from its winter sleep.
The warm tones of the withered foliage contrast harmoniously with the cool shades of snow and shadow. The composition naturally draws the eye deeper into the landscape.
A serene work in which nature, transience and silence come together in a timeless image.
