Information:
Debora Duyvis studied at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam from 1911 to 1918, where Johannes Aarts introduced her to graphic techniques and Antoon Derkinderen encouraged her to pursue a career in the applied arts. This work was executed in Paris in 1924, as shown by a contemporary etching of the same man by her hand.
She travelled extensively, including to Italy, Corsica, Mallorca, Ibiza, Venice and Brittany, and drew inspiration from landscapes, harbour views and regional ways of life. Duyvis mastered all graphic techniques, particularly burin engraving, and was praised for her exceptional technical skill. Alongside her artistic practice, she taught graphic arts and helped pass craftsmanship and graphic discipline on to a younger generation.
